| Dear Citizens of Wylie, |
Welcome and thank you for taking the time to become an educated voter. As you go through the decision making process in selecting your Mayor, I welcome your questions, comments and concerns via phone, mail, email or in person. In 15 years we have seen the removal of railroad tracks that ran along Highway 78, which allowed for the redevelopment of a business corridor. Additional retail development includes the building of Home Depot, Super Wal-Mart and plans for a Super Target. We have come from a small police department and volunteer fire department to a multifaceted law enforcement agency and a fire-rescue department that is second to none. In 1993 do you think the citizens of Wylie would have believed any of this would come to be? These things came to pass through hard work that never wavered; we did not just stumble blindly forward. Using imagination and creativity in conjunction with knowledge, teamwork, tenacity and a strong leadership team that did not make decisions for the people, rather with the people, we set a sound foundation to build for the future. We will be faced with many issues as we plan for the next 35-50 years. As a community we must stand strong and united in the direction that we take. We must focus on public safety, education, transportation, healthcare services, tax rate reduction, continued strengthening of the local economy and other quality of life issues that concern us all as we raise our families. We must remember that planning for the future is not a destination, but rather a journey. By establishing realistic goals with measurable outcomes that are reflective of the values of our community, we can achieve them. We have come a long way together – from a population under 15,000 in 1998 to over 39,000 today, we have weathered storms, tornados, fires and housed the displaced together. This city and community have faced each challenge with dignity and grace. I am proud to have served you through some of our greatest triumphs and largest trials as a city. I want to thank you for allowing me to serve this amazing community and ask for your support for Mayor in the upcoming election in May. Sincerely, ![]() John Mondy |
